A protest was held Saturday afternoon outside a reported Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Pflugerville.

What they’re saying:

Protesters tell FOX 7 the facility on Algreg Street was built as an ICE detention center without public knowledge or input.

“What we really need are schools, housing and parks and instead we have a facility for detention and deportation,” said Peishi Cheng. “We want it shut down.”

The group of about 100 people is calling on local leaders to block the expansion of detention and deportation infrastructure in Central Texas.

Supporters of the facility say it’s about getting dangerous people off the street.

“I’m out here because people are protesting the rule of law, because they don’t want criminals deported out of the country,” said Will Johnson.

Big picture view:

This all comes as President Donald Trump cracks down on undocumented immigrants and ramps up deportation efforts. That has included a series of immigration enforcement raids in Texas and across the country—including in Austin.

FOX 7 reached out to ICE for clarification on what the facility is being used for, but as of Saturday night, we have not heard back.
